Any living creature is going to come with its own special list of problems when it is trying to adapt to a new environment and a Shih Tzu is no different. Shih Tzu problems can range from biting to housebreaking issues but if you understand why your dog is behaving a singular way then it is a minute easier to devise a plan to bring that behavior to an end. With the Shih Tzu it is all about patience.
The Shih Tzu hates loud noises and a lot of clatter and commotion. They feel pressured and a lot of tension when there is something loud going on or a lot of habitancy are running around. The natural response for a Shih Tzu that feels this kind of tension is to start biting and this is why a Shih Tzu is often said to not be a great dog for kids. Not every Shih Tzu is the same but this behavior is known to be common to the breed.
Shitzu Dogs
Of all of the Shih Tzu problems you will encounter none will be more aggravating and frustrating that the minute dogs arrogant attitude. They are very regal animals that have a bit of Chinese royalty in their blood and they never forget that. It takes a long time to get the Shih Tzu to understand that they are not the boss and you are, and even when you think they understand it they are still going to do pretty much anything they want to do.
Shih Tzu dogs are not going to go jogging with you and they won't be joining you for a run in the park either. They do not want a lot of exercise and while they can be very fun and playful dogs they are not known for covering a lot of ground while playing. If you are looking for a jogging partner the Shih Tzu is not for you.
The most common of Shih Tzu problems is housebreaking. A Shih Tzu does not like dirt and grass so you have to find a nice concrete and clean place for them to go outside. Then if they decree they don't want to go outside, or that housebreaking isn't for them, then you are stuck with a long and frustrating ordeal. They are very stubborn animals and in order to win you have to be more stubborn than they are.
A Shih Tzu is a very independent reasoning dog that is not going to wait for you to form out what it wants to do. They are very confident and arrogant and that can cause problems when you are trying to train them. It is going to want a lot of patience and persistence to get them to understand who is boss but in the end, if you all the time keep your cool and result the rules of training a Shih Tzu, you should be able to get your dog to where you are both happy.
